Taken primarily in the central United States, Heartland is a series that explores the physical and social landscape of America’s small towns and vast rural expanses. Although most of these photographs concentrate on topography devoid of human beings, the cultural presence of those who inhabit these lands is conveyed in images of where they live, work, eat and pray. I believe that life in America’s heartland is simple and straightforward, and it’s my hope that the compositions in these photographs reflect that sentiment.

Jana Voigt (b. 1987 in Halberstadt, Germany) currently lives in Leipzig, where she attends the Academy of Visual Arts.
